Matthew Lesser is the co-founder and CEO of Frrvrr, and a sophomore at Kensington High School in Ithaca, New York. Matthew developed Frrvrr in his bedroom at his parents' house during the fall of 2007.
Displaying an early interest in technology and computers, Matthew wrote his first program–a basic book-and-movie recommendation application–when he was nine. At the age of 11, he placed second at the Westinghouse National Science Fair with his innovative facial-recognition photo software, which was later incorporated into the Pentagon's TIA program.
Matthew built Frrvrr with his cousin David Beke, a former software engineer. The genesis of Frrvrr came about through absolute necessity. Matthew and David had been looking for a more efficient web-based protocol for managing photos, contacts, and other content, but couldn't find one that satisfied them. As Matthew explained in a recent interview, "I was frustrated because Facebook didn't have nearly the functionality I wanted in an online social network. It's a completely inefficient platform and a useless way to communicate with people. Frrvrr will show people what they've been missing, what they haven't been able to figure out themselves." With that, a revolution was born.
Frrvrr has already received an initial investment of 20 million dollars from numerous venture capital firms and plans to seek a second round of funding this summer.
